The suspension of direct flights baffles Moroccans living in the Netherlands















Members of the Moroccan community residing in the Netherlands who entered Morocco as part of extraordinary flights, to spend the holiday with their families, found themselves in bewilderment after Dutch media published news about the suspension of direct flights between the Netherlands and Morocco.

Dutch media reported in news clippings broadcast yesterday, Thursday, citing Dutch officials, that direct flights between the Netherlands and Morocco have stopped, after the end of the bilateral agreement related to exceptional flights signed between the two countries last Tuesday, and were not renewed.

This decision made members of the Moroccan community who are currently in Morocco wondering about the fate of the flights that were supposed to return them to the Netherlands after the end of their vacation, and some of them had an appointment at the end of this week and next week, and no notification has yet been reached about the cancellation of flights, which means In principle, the flights are still in place.

Information obtained from identical sources stating that the agreement to organize exceptional flights between the Netherlands and Morocco ended on August 10, and has not been renewed so far, which means that the airlines that provide these flights (Royal Air Maroc and Arab Airlines) need to New permission from the Dutch authorities to resume its flights.

The data obtained by the press confirmed that communication between the Moroccan and Dutch parties is still continuing until now to reach a new agreement to resume direct flights between Morocco and the Netherlands, in order to ensure the return of members of the Moroccan community currently in Morocco to their country of residence.

For his part, an official source from the Royal Air Maroc company, which secures one flight per week between Morocco and the Netherlands, confirmed that the fate of direct flights between the two countries is not yet clear, indicating that the Royal Air Maroc company has not yet obtained a license from the Dutch authorities. The same source added, that in the event that the Royal Air Maroc company did not receive the license from the Dutch authorities, the flight scheduled for tomorrow, Saturday, from Mohammed V Airport in Casablanca towards Amsterdam, will not take place, stressing that no decision has been taken so far. In this context, another official source from the Royal Air Maroc company in the Netherlands stated, in a call to the press, that the flight expected to depart tomorrow from Mohammed V Airport in the direction of the Netherlands will remain scheduled unless the customers who booked tickets onboard receive any notification of their cancellation. Adding that "there are intense negotiations with the Dutch side to reach a solution that satisfies both parties."
